Neil is a Principal in the Chemistry and Life Sciences practice group. He has 20 years’ patenting experience across a wide range of chemical technologies, with particular expertise in pharmaceutically active small molecules, polymers and nanotechnology. He specialises in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the pharmaceutical and specialty chemicals areas, where he assists clients in obtaining patent protection in Australia and other jurisdictions of interest.
Prior to joining the firm, Neil worked in the research and development division of the Australian subsidiary of an international food company. This industrial experience assists Neil in understanding intellectual property issues from a client’s perspective.
Neil majored in Chemistry at university. The research covered in his thesis entitled, ‘Total Synthesis of Tropoloisoquinoline Alkaloids Imerubrine and Grandirubrine’, has led to him being a co-author of six research publications in the chemistry field. Neil was awarded the Institute Prize by the Institute of Patent and Trade Marks Attorneys of Australia for high academic achievement in the qualifying examinations.
