On 28 January 2016, POF hosted the first BioMelbourne Network event for the year, ‘Hot or Not Trends for 2016’. The talk covered the future directions in biotechnology, medical technology, investment, IP, research, product development and health innovation. The event was so popular, tickets sold out instantly!
One of our Partners in our Chemistry and Life Sciences team, Dr Debra Yin Foo, presented her views on the forecast for 2016 with regards to IP Law, especially on the recent progress in the CRISPR IP wars and the possible outcome. Debra also covered the implications of the Myriad decision, the full federal court decision of RPL Central and computer implemented inventions and wearable technologies. Key guest speakers also provided their insights including Dr Keith McLean, the Manufacturing Flagship Director at CSIRO, Dr Amir Zalcenstein, the Investment Manager at One Ventures, Dr Louise Schaper, the CEO at Health Informatics Society of Australia and Marco Barsanti from Thermo Fisher Scientific. Other topics discussed included finance trends, market trends, the National Innovation and Science Agenda, CSIRO and Google, and the audience had the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the panel.
The event was a great success with 85 people attending, and offered a valuable networking opportunity to reconnect after the holiday break. We would like to thank everyone who participated in this BioBriefing and we look forward to working with BioMelbourne in 2016.
