There are multiple funding options available to Australian organisations to help subsidise the cost of R&D and marketing activities, but many are underutilised. One of these options is the Australian Government’s flagship innovation program, the R&D tax incentive. The incentive can significantly reduce the cost of undertaking R&D activities through the application of a tax offset of up to 43.5% for R&D expenses.
While there is a perception that research and development is carried out only by scientists in laboratories, the application of the R&D Tax Incentive is much broader and is available to companies of all sizes, including SMEs and start-ups.
Other funding options that are often overlooked are the export market grant and entrepreneurs tax offset. The export market grant provides a reimbursement of up to 50% on eligible export promotion expenses, helping to alleviate some of the costs of foreign marketing expenses, including costs related to foreign intellectual property protection. In turn, the entrepreneurs tax offset can provide a 20% tax rebate to investors in early stage companies.
This seminar will explore the eligibility criteria of these funding options and other incentives for companies pursuing development or marketing of their IP. |
