The US remains the most significant market for commercialising technology and protecting IP. The US patent system is quite unique in many aspects and significantly distinct from other jurisdictions such as Europe or Australia. Most information on US patent law and practice also comes from the perspective of an American attorney.

In this presentation, our newest recruit, Matthew Ford will provide an anecdotal account of US patent prosecution from the perspective of an Australian attorney working with clients filing in the US. The focus will be on how Australian attorneys can help to enhance the strength and value of their clients’ US patents.

The duration of the seminar will be approximately 1 hour

About the presenters:

Matthew Ford – Senior Associate – Phillips Ormonde Fitzpatrick
Matthew practices primarily in the fields of physics, electrical engineering and computer technologies. With a background in the field of photonics, he specialises in lasers, optical fibres, photovoltaic devices and various optical network devices.

In his practice, Matthew focusses on assisting clients to establish, build and enhance their patent portfolios, both domestically and internationally.
