POF Seminar: A snapshot of designs today

Please note that this event has already occurred. Go back to events to see upcoming events.

Presenter:  Helen McFadzean – Associate – Electronics, Physics and IT
People often say appearances are not everything. This is true for many things in life, but not in the field of product design. Creating the right product appearance can provide a powerful competitive edge in the market place.

The overall appearance of a product resulting from one or more visual features can be protected under Designs Law. But what is considered a visual feature of a product? What is the new and distinctive requirement? What does ‘substantially similar in overall impression’ mean? Who is the informed user? And what is the deal with the copyright overlap?

Join us in this seminar to explore these topics under the Designs Act 2003 – the legislation that has shaped the designs protection landscape in Australia for almost 14 years.

The duration of the seminar will be approximately 1 hour.
