International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) is on 17 May. It celebrates LGBTQIA+ people globally and raises awareness for the work still needed to combat discrimination. This year’s theme is Together: Resisting, Supporting, Healing! The powerful theme was chosen due to the recent challenges that the world has faced this past year.
To acknowledge and support IDAHOBIT day, POF is raising funds and celebrating with morning teas in each office. POF is proud to be supporting Minus18 which is a charity that champions for LGBTQIA+ youth. They aim to change lives through events, education and campaigns, and they advocate for an Australia where all young people are safe, empowered, and surrounded by people that support them. POF employees gathered together both virtually and in person today to watch a live streamed video from Minus18 to help educate staff on LGBTQIA+ terms and identities, statistics and barriers facing LGBTQIA+ people, the importance of active allyship and practical tips for supporting friends, colleagues and clients in the workplace.
POF has also gone rainbow on our website as well as on our LinkedIn and Twitter pages in recognition of the week. As part of our commitment to inclusion and diversity, everyone at POF has the option to display gender pronouns in their email signature.
We are also thrilled to announce our membership of the Diversity Council Australia (DCA). DCA is Australia’s only independent, not-for-profit peak body for workplace diversity and inclusion.
