Trade Marks Attorney

About the role

We are currently seeking a registered Trade Marks Attorney/Lawyer to join our rapidly growing and highly successful trade marks team in Sydney.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with our existing local and foreign client base, while building and expanding your own portfolio of work.

This position is flexible, offering the opportunity to work either part-time (4 days a week) or full-time.

Reporting to the Senior Associate in our Sydney Trade marks team, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Trade mark portfolio management
  • Advising on the adoption of new trade marks including undertaking trade mark clearance searches
  • Advising on and filing Australian, New Zealand and international trade mark applications
  • Assisting clients in all aspects of local and overseas trade mark prosecution matters
  • Preparing and managing oppositions and non-use actions, including preparing evidence and submissions, and drafting co-existence agreements
  • Advising on trade mark enforcement issues
  • Working with the trade marks team in relation to its business development activities
  • advising in related areas of IP, including domain name disputes and copyright queries

About you

You are an experienced and professional registered trade marks attorney and/or lawyer with a minimum of three years’ experience in an IP firm or law firm.  In addition, you will have the following:

  • A sound knowledge of trade mark law and practice,
  • Exceptional technical knowledge,
  • A willingness to learn and grow in the role,
  • Initiative and the ability to work independently
  • Exceptional attention to detail,
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Experience with IP database management software,
  • Business acumen and willingness to engage with existing and prospective clients.
