We recently reported that Qantas Airways Limited (the company who owns Jetstar) opposed the registration of one of a number of Toyota “Jump” trademarks. The issue has received some press recently.
The Australian Trademark Office have recently accepted a raft of “Jump” applications from Toyota which were advertised as accepted on 4 October 2012.
In the meantime, Qantas Airways Limited have opposed the registration of Australian trademark application number 1472463.
It is interesting to note that this mark is a movement trademark in that it includes an endorsement, namely:
The trademark is a movement mark as shown in the representation attached to the application form. It consists of a boy leaping into the air from a standing start extending his arms and legs out to his sides at the same time while in mid air forming a star shape. The image attached to the application form is a still of a scene from the video clip. The trademark does not include words or sounds.
Detailed below is a list of the “Jump” trademarks which have been filed by Toyota (all in class 12 for motor vehicles) which have been accepted together with the opposition deadline (extendable). A number of the “pure” device marks are due for registration on 16 November 2012 (unless opposed) and a number of the movement marks are due for registration on 4 January 2013 (again unless they are opposed).
